The Finest Adventure (E. Delaney) Once I met a Frenchman who gave me half his pie I don’t speak any French He didn’t speak any English We shared a laugh and a pie and the beauty of the day The beauty of the mountains At a café in Amsterdam It was a sit-down kind of show I saw a dancer in the back smiling through her tears She looked like a rainbow that had stepped out of the sky to dance Everyone else was facing me Was she real? Or was she make believe? But I talked to her after the show She said, “Life goes faster than you know when you are young.” “You must dance and sing every chance you get. Meet your life every day like you are in love.” “Be in love with your life, child.” In my pocket there’s a map, well really it’s a blank piece of paper Let’s take a walk, let’s wander together While there is still time Before the sun goes down The sun always goes down Surely you and I can have the finest adventure You have a map in your pocket, I have a map You have a dream if you want it, I have a dream too Let’s share our dreams Let’s dance and sing together This is our life, the sun is rising, before the night comes I want to love you better and better and better and better I want to love

I Think About You (E. Delaney, T. Delaney) One Saturday our daughter made a cafe in our house She made up the menus and drew a sign that said; “Cafe Open Now” The neighbors came over and we served homemade pie I was thinking about you smiling, looking down, with shiny eyes I think about you when the weather gets cold I think about you watching my daughter grow I think about you as time keeps rolling on like a river flows I think about you when the tide comes in, when it pulls back, Leaving more room for walking, on a million grains of sand I think about you again and again I think about you I keep looking for a way to get around what’s in the background The truth of losing you and living on has got me turning inside out I keep my head up, looking to the sky Thinking if I let myself fall into grief, I’ll cry an ocean and die I think about you when the weather gets cold I think about you watching my daughter grow I think about you as time keeps rolling on like a river flows I think about you when the tide comes in, when it pulls back, Leaving more room for walking, on a million grains of sand I think about you again and again I think about you One Saturday, the Sunshine Cafe warmed our house I was thinking of you and wishing you could stop by The cafe is open now

Ordinary Love (E. Delaney) Love, ordinary love Love, this is the time of our lives We are watching the tide Come in and go out again Love, it’s such a beautiful night Walking here by your side There is nothing else I’d rather do Love, ordinary love Sticking it out when the going gets tough I keep coming home to you Love, ordinary love Seeing the best and giving no less Working hard to be good for you I got a feeling, things are only getting brighter We are stopping all that shadow boxing Seeing more light We have made a decision To make our love better Every moment is a chance to turn whatever’s wrong right We are magic in the making We are making magic happen… Love, ordinary love (Don’t you know I want you) Love, we just get better with time Keeping each other in mind We got an everyday joy attitude Love, every day I’ll be Sticking it out when the going gets tough I keep coming home to you Love, I’ll keep my eyes on the truth Seeing the best and giving no less Doin’ what I can do Everyday love Steal the show love We don’t need fancy stuff To make our dreams come true I got a feeling things will keep getting brighter Love, ordinary love

Bird on a wire (E. Delaney, T. Delaney) I can’t believe we’re in this situation. My heart breaks thinking it’s too late. We draw lines, the temperature’s rising. The ocean doesn’t care what land it takes How did we get so disconnected? I’m plugged in, but I’m out of touch Can I find my way back to the garden? Break the spell that’s got a hold on us There’s a bird on a wire In between the ground and sky I can hear the song she’s singing I can hear holy joy ringing Like a prayer on the wind A touch of grace, hearing it The love and peace we think is missing Is right here all the time I keep thinking I am one person Ice is melting, what can I do? Now or never never seemed so urgent I worry bout the weather, I never used to I think of all plastic in the ocean It’s part of nearly everything I buy How do I change it? All the habits It’s hard to see we’re running out of time We can’t buy more time There’s a bird on a wire In between the ground and sky I can hear the song she’s singing I can hear holy joy ringing Like a prayer on the wind A touch of grace, hearing it The love and peace we think is missing Is right here all the time somewhere inside you and I there’s a bird on a wire Maybe if we heal our deepest wounds Generations of carried pain I care about our children’s children It’s time to do something Oh can we do something?!

Start where you are (E. Delaney) Start where you are Head in your hands Cotton in your ears Stone in your heart Start where you are Ocean in your eyes Tears are like rain Inside a bigger sky There is a change coming on There is a chance to wake up To what is going on Start where you are Thinking you know Falling on your face You can see the road Start where you are Wherever it is Loving can break your heart But fear will do you in There is a change coming on There is a chance to wake up To what is going on Start where you are I say to myself Telling the truth is loving Even when it's hell Start where you are Stretch open your mind That's how we'll come together Can we come together? There is a change coming on There is a chance to wake up To what is going on Start where you are

Pie For Breakfast (E. Delaney) Sometimes you have Pie for Breakfast Sometimes you gotta bend the rules Maybe you laugh when it’s time to cry Maybe you cry when things are good It’s alright if you wanna dance And if you don’t that’s alright too You can do right by the world And still be true to you Strange days we’re living in Like some kinda dream We got the world in our pockets Popping up on a little screen I’ve got a distracted mind wrapped up in a restless heart How do we break free, to see the lighter side, of the way things are? Maybe a little Pie For Breakfast Well, I’ve been around a little while Had a few ups and downs felt like I’m running in place Trying to find steady ground There must be a reason why shadows follow the sun Shadow at my back, I look ahead, for that light to lead me on There are so many troubles in this world I want to do my part to help the bigger picture What do I want to teach my little girl The golden rule, respect is love, and to remember Sometimes you have Pie For Breakfast…. Sing a long oh yeah

You Got This 03:36
You Got This (E. Delaney, T. Delaney) I remember the day we met You changed my whole world Like you knew right from the start you were my little girl Your heart, beat next to mine I felt so much love when you looked into my eyes I knew I could trust You got this, you can do it This is your journey and I’ll be right here Trust yourself there’s no need to worry I see your strength, this is just the beginning Training wheels off to the side You’re helmet was just right You were ready but hesitant You said, “Mama, hold on tight” I ran beside you, then I let go you were riding all by yourself Laughing out loud you yelled, “I’m doing it!” Then the bike fell down You got this, you can do it This is your journey and I’ll be right here Trust yourself mistakes come with learning I see your strength, this is just the beginning The last bag is your dorm, and I’m closing the trunk I can’t believe you won’t be coming back home Until Thanksgiving comes I look at you and you look at me It’s time for goodbye Before you head off with your friends I hug you one last time… You got this, you can do it This is your journey and I’ll be right here Trust yourself, there’s no need to worry I see your strength, this is just the beginning I get in the car and turn the key It is so hard to leave… There’s a waterfall in my eyes As I say to me… You got this, you can do it This is her journey, she knows you’re right here Trust yourself, it’s normal to worry We both have strength, and this is just the beginning

Happy Life 03:10
Happy Life (E. Delaney, Barris
) You don’t need much for a happy life You just need hope and peace of mind A whole lot of loving and a little time Can make your whole world go around A friend to call on a Saturday A quiet walk in the summer rain The simple things in our everyday Can bring us back to here, and now Happiness Happiness Happiness Right here Right at my finger tips Happiness You don’t need bait and a fishing line When you got the catch of a lifetime Everybody’s looking for a better find Maybe that’s because they don’t have you You help me smile when I’m sideways We laugh out loud at the smallest things And when this old world’s getting heavy You bring me back to what is true Happiness Happiness Happiness Right here Right at my finger tips Happiness Take a good look at the sky, nature shows us Weather and seasons bring change I want to live my whole life from right now Like this time means everything You don’t need much for a happy life Some letting go and being kind And when your heart breaks open wide Feeling the tender joy in you

Paper Wings 03:32
Paper Wings (E. Delaney) I woke up with the weight of the world in my heart So I went outside to sit on the ground The day had clouds and sun and rain And all the stars were falling down You and I were born in a world of light And we live in the shadow of grief How fast the ride can seem slow at times When we’re carried on our paper wings Love, I met you in the first of spring I loved you in the fall But in the winter’s frosty breath I couldn’t feel you at all I looked and waited for centuries Feeling like I was alone Today I see that you are here That you have never been gone Love, oh love, how you come and go Like breath, like a beating heart I wish that I could hold on to you But that’s not the way things are You and I were born in a world of light And we live in the shadow of grief How fast the ride can seem slow at times When we’re carried on our paper wings

Somebody Misses You (E. Delaney, Barris
) When you leave for a time Won’t be long, a short goodbye Look up! We’re under the same sky You’re a gypsy wandering Till you come back home again Until you are laying by my side Somebody waits for you Somebody prays for you Think of me as you close your eyes When you sleep under the stars I’ll hold you in my heart Somebody misses you tonight Our love has found a home We take it with us wherever we go Together or apart, we both know There’s a treasure we keep safe It brings us back to a tender place (and) you and I are never alone Somebody waits for you Somebody prays for you Think of me as you close your eyes When you sleep under the stars I’ll hold you in my heart Somebody misses you tonight like the steady river flows like the constant wind gentle as it blows Somebody waits for you Somebody prays for you Think of me as you close your eyes When you sleep under the stars I’ll hold you in my heart Somebody misses you tonight

Now is the time (E. Delaney, T. Delaney) Is this the time for hopes and wishes? Is it naive to think we could all be safe? Can we find our feet and stand up for our children? Can we learn to feel the grief and take action so this will change Who matters more? And who’s freedom? Do we have the right to know we’ll be okay? In a movie theater, in a schoolhouse In a place of worship, we are now afraid We’ve seen manifestos and copycats repeat this scene and we call them “lone wolf” But it is hate, and our children are watching While we look away, they ask why don’t we do something? Is this the time for hopes and wishes? Is it naive to think we could all be safe? Can we find our feet and stand up for our children? Can we learn to feel the grief and take action so this will change Are we helpless against big money? Would the sportsman… really suffer more? These are not the guns that are used for hunting These are the weapons made and used for war It’s not enough to watch with horror We must stand up and speak the truth Our kids are taught to be silent when hiding Wondering if the next shooting will be at their school Is this the time for hopes and wishes? now is the time to act yes it is yes the time is now yes it is yes the time is now

Better Angels (E. Delaney) Like the stars reflect the sun Maybe we are part reflection Maybe we begin somewhere along a never ending chain of light repeat, reflect, repeat Here, right now can we hope to find the truth The Better Angels of our nature Like the dark before the dawn Can we see all we’ve become becoming Do we have to run from what is true that hurts, can we let it land? repeat, reflect, repeat Here, right now can we hope to find the truth The Better Angels of our nature Here, right now can I let go of what I once knew I don’t have to have the answers

about

Spreading joy is what singer/songwriter Ellis Delaney (formerly known as “Ellis”) does best, and it permeates throughout her new album Ordinary Love. Celebrating the beauty in everyday living, the album will be released on June 5, 2020, and it couldn’t come at a better time. Even amidst illness, loss, climate change and gun violence, Ellis finds joy and meaning from family, community connection and simple domestic pleasures.

Says Ellis, “My hope for this record is that it both inspires a lighter heart while also expressing and connecting to the gravity of this moment in our human history. Can we greet our lives, each other, and even the news every day with ordinary love?"

The answer is a resounding yes. On this 10th studio album, the seasoned songwriter digs deep to bring us songs that are resonant and rooted in the reality we now live in--where our lives are our homes, our relationships. Songs like “Pie for Breakfast” and “You Got This” celebrate simple joys while songs like “I Think About You” address the longing to reconnect with loved ones.

Recorded at Wild Sound Studio in Minneapolis and engineered by Steve Kaul, the album was a labor of love, bringing together friends and musicians from the Twin Cities community that Ellis has been such an integral part of for the last 20 years. Contributors include Paisley Park alum Mychael Gabriel, The Honeydogs’ Adam Levy, bass virtuoso Liz Draper, rapper Desdamona, string duo The OK Factor and many others. Together these musically diverse artists come together to create a colorful collection of songs that mix folk, pop and Americana sounds. Sounding anything but ordinary, this album is both timeless and timely--it is the music we need now, more than ever.
